Amazon Rainforest no longer CO2 sink
As has been widely reported today, the National Institute for Space Research in Brazil has found that deforestation fires and drying out caused by higher temperatures mean that the Amazon tropical forest is now emitting more CO2 than it absorbs. Previously, the world’s largest forest absorbed CO2 helping to reduce global warming. Now it is contributing to acceleration.
Amazon Watch is campaigning to demand that banks like HSBC stop funding deforestation. You can read about their campaign and sign their petition here.
