Permaculture

Permaculture and Transition

Permaculture is a creative, ethical approach for designing any process so that it works with nature rather than against it. Having evolved from gardening and land use, it is now applied on a much wider level as a means of designing our actions to encompass the principles and three key ethics of permaculture:

·         Earth Care – focused on nurturing the environment
·         People Care – focused on meeting the needs of humans
·         Fair Share – focused on sharing abundance with others.

As part of the Transition movement, our concern with climate change and its impact on future generations means that we aim to live compassionately without the unnecessary exploitation of people, animals and the environment.

Taking a permaculture approach to our interaction with ecosystems, other species and each other helps to make our work in Transition more effective; harvesting greater yields of energy and participation from our communities.

We’re proud to be working with Westbury Arts Centre on a permaculture project to create a community garden at Westbury Arts Centre in Milton Keynes.

Our “Planting Up” project is built by the local community, for the local community. In applying permaculture principles, our aim is to improve the outdoor space at Westbury so that the garden better serves local people as a social, educational and food growing resource in parallel with enriching the natural environment in a more sustainable way.
